This is where the Mississippi and Missouri rivers come together. The drive over is beautiful, but the actual confluence point could use some work. For a nicer confluence view, go south to the Columbia Bottoms.
The view is spectacular. It's hard to realize the convergence starts the trip to the Gulf of Mexico. The park is surprisingly rural and there are four miles of rock road to the park.
Drove all the way out there just to get stopped by a sign 3 miles from the confluence. Would have been nice to know that before we got so close. Website said nothing. Thanks, Missouri. You make Illinois look good. OK, maybe not.
This place is off the beaten path. It is is an easily flooded place, so check the weather before you go. If it says the road is closed, trust it. Trust your GPS, it is taking you to the right place. It is about 10minutes of dirt and gravel roads. And then it just appears.
Great view of confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. What a fantastic planet we live on.
There was trails down the road I saw marked. The gates were locked and it looked wet, so I didn't go. There are several historic places right in a 5 mile stretch so you could do some major site seeing around Alton and the rivers.
There is a .25 flat path walk to get to the confluence. It is scenic and historic. There isn't a whole lot to see or do beyond the small trail, but still nice to see. There is a small pavilion. To eat lunch. I thought there was more trails.
